Is 'Baahubali' Not Trendsetter?

A trendsetter means someone or something that sets trend and others will follow it. Scarcely do we see trendsetting films in Tollywood. First ever Telugu movie 'Bhaktha Prahlada'(1932) set the trend of mythological films while 'Malapilla'(1938) set a different trend consisting a controversial and strong social message in it. From then on once for every five or ten years, Tollywood witnessed a trendsetting film.

Some of the trendsetting films changed entire Telugu cinema's path as well. Usually, industry hit movies are expected to be trendsetters. If at all, ace director SS Rajamouili's track record is taken into consideration, his first industry hit 'Magadheera' set the trend of socio fantasy films enacted by star heroes. Young Tiger NTR was highly inspired by 'Magadheera's heroism based content and worked for 'Shakthi'. Stylish Star Allu Arjun's 'Badrinadh' has also the shades of 'Magadheera' in it.

When it comes to Rajamouli's second industry hit and Tollywood's latest industry hit 'Baahubali', the movie seems to have set no trend in Tollywood. No star hero at the moment is doing high budgeted complete fantasy entertainers like 'Baahubali'. Although Balakrishna is planning for the sequel of 'Aditya 369', it falls under the genre of socio historical sci fi thriller. Gunasekhar's 'Rudhramadevi' was under production even before the release of 'Baahubali' and it was a historical film.Having considered all these happenings, it is understood that many filmmakers and heroes of Tollywood are not considering 'Baahubali' that great film to be inspired but they unanimously accept the fact that 'Baahubali' is a tremendous hit of Indian cinema.
