One year ago, the supreme court made it mandatory to play national anthem in cinema halls. Opposition parties, however, wondered how the apex court echoed the BJP's opinion then.

Nonetheless, while reviewing the national anthem in theatres recently,  the supreme court asked the centre not to be cynical for standing at the time when the national anthem is played.

"Why do we have to wear patriotism on our sleeves? People go to cinema for undiluted entertainment and to ease out. Tomorrow someone may say people should not come in shorts and t-shirts in cinema halls as the national anthem is played there. Where then do we draw the line. Where (will) this moral policing would stop?" Justice Chandrachud said.

Actor Arvind Swamy questions the government why should national anthem is played only in theatres and why not in government offices.

"I will always stand up for our Natl Anthem & sing along, which I do with great pride.Never understood why it ws mandatory n cinema halls only. Why not everyday in all govt offices, courts, before assembly and parliament sessions?," tweeted Arvind Swamy.

The BJP government, which appeared to have rubbed wrong sides of audience needs to answer Arvind Swamy's question.
