Malavalli Huchche Gowda Amarnath aka Ambareesh passed away On Saturday, 24 November at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 66 and is survived by wife and veteran heroine Sumalathad and a son named Abhishek.

Ambareesh had been suffering from kidney ailment for a long time. He was found unresponsive in the early hours of Saturday at his home. Soon he was rushed to a private hospital. Despite all aggressive resuscitation efforts, he could not be revived.

Ambareesh made his film debut with a national award winning film Naagarahaavu in 1972. Initially, he would essay the roles of antagonist and supporting roles in films. Gradually, he emerged as a superstar from Sandalwood. His fans would fondly call him Rebel Star. 

Ambareesh was born on 29 May 1952 in Mandya. He acted around 200 films in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi films. He was honoured man film awards by prestigious firms. 

Ambareesh took his plunge into politics in early 90s. He was a member of Congress and Janatha Dal. He served as an MP and union minister of the Congress party. 

Ambareesh was supposed to be playing Bheeshma role in upcoming mythological flick Kurukshetra.

Cinejosh is saddened with the demise of Ambareesh. Our heartfelt condolences to his family members. May his soul rest in peace!
