During the Telangana movement, protestors often accused Tollywood of insulting locals as many from the Telugu film industry had roots in Andhra Pradesh. Protestors forced many celebrities to support their cause in a violent manner. After the bifurcation of the state into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu after taking oath, rolled out red carpet to Tollywood offering many incentives.
Reports came that Nagarjuna, Suresh Babu, Allu Aravind planned to come up with extravagant studios and Tollywood would soon shift to Andhra Pradesh. But after five years, though Tollywood promised to shoot films in AP, nothing of such kind happened.
Now many are wondering why Tollywood biggies forgot their promise and conveniently ignored Andhra Pradesh. Although 30 big budget films are said to be in progress currently in Andha Pradesh, sources say the state has yet to develop the required infrastructure for shooting big budget films and more skilled artistes and technicians are needed.
Most of the top stars, cast and crew prefer air conditioned studios, high end cameras, lighting facilities, recording and dubbing studios etc.
Ambika Krishna, former chairman of AP State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation, said “We managed to persuade 14 top film stars in Tollywood to fix shooting schedules for at least 10 days each in the state so that it becomes a continuous exercise where shooting of films takes place on a regular basis. Moreover, as these stars hail from AP, they have the social responsibility of promoting the film industry in the state. They should promote the Telugu film industry both in AP and TS equally so that both states get the benefit in terms of revenue, besides name and fame.”
As per a buzz, AP Film Development Corporation has identified nearly 300 acres in Visakhapatnam and has offered 20 acres of land to actor N Balakrishna and 26 acres to Chennai-based AVM Production at 50 lakh per acre to construct film studios.
