Priyamani during her hay days romanced top stars down south and she even went on to win the best actress award at the national level. Apart from it, Priyamani danced opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Chennai Express.

She is now starring in Virataparvam under the direction of Venu Udugula. The film also stars Rana and Sai Pallavi in important roles. Priyamani speaking about her role as Comrade Bharatakka, a Naxalite, she got excited.

She said director Venu Udugula went for the look test straight away after narrating the script. She said he gave her few references of Naxalites and said he was adamant that she do the role as he felt that she would fit the role perfectly. She said he told her to do the role realistically.

Priyamani revealed that the director and his team carried real rifles and wanted to see how she looked with them in the photoshoot. She said the hotel authorities were shocked when they saw the guns but later the makers clarified that it was for a photoshoot. She said during the shoot, Venu revealed that he worked as an assistant director for one of her films, Pellaina Kottalo.

Priyamani said she wanted to do the Naxalite role as there were not many films with Naxal backdrop and she too did not play it earlier. She said as per director's advice she did not apply any makeup and left her hair natural and tied into a bun. She said she was trained in handling gun and action scenes by a stunt master from Germany. She revealed that for the first time she realized that the rifle could be so heavy and running with it was a big challenge.
