Late NTR became the CM in 1983. Co-incidentally, Chiranjeevi delivered the first industry hit of his 'Khaidi' in the same year. The aura created by Chiranjeevi post the Khaidi's release was unprecedented. Obviously, most of the film lovers started treating him the new number one hero of Tollywood. But then, the media didn't admit it. It wanted more proofs.

Chiranjeevi kept on scoring super hits and blockbusters consistently between 1983 and 1987. At that moment, Jyothi Chitra's editor conducted a poll on 'Particular Star' title cunningly. That poll was intended to announce the title for one senior star who was set to be fading out then. And did you know who that editor was? He is none other than the powerful yellow media 'CBN Chandrajyothi's owner. Yes, he has been irritating mega fans for the past three and half decades.

Thereafter, Tollywood witnessed yet another earth shattering industry hit Pasivadi Pranam. The film hit the screens on 23 July, 1987. Then number one cine weekly 'Sithara' called Chiranjeevi the number one hero of Tollywood. Chiranjeevi humbly said, 'NUMBER ONE ANNAA PONGIPONU. NUMBER TEN ANNAA KUNGIPONU.'. That statement and Chiranjeevi's pic came as a cover page in Sithara in the next month after Pasivadi Pranam's release. 

Later, Chiranjeevi was given 'Megastar' title by then top producer KS Ramarao. The title 'Megastar Chiranjeevi' appeared for the first time in Marana Mrudangam released in 1988.

Till date, all movie lovers of Telugu states and media have failed to show another hero as a number one hero. As such, exact number one status of Chiranjeevi started 33 years ago, officially, when Pasivadi Pranam turned an industry hit in 1987.
