Spectators have been anxiously waiting for Netflix’s Telugu original Pitta Kathalu for two years now and finally, we are just a couple of weeks away from its release. The trailer of the original was released earlier on Friday and it has done enough to grab everyone’s eyeballs. For the unversed, Pitta Kathalu features four shorts on relationships, directed by Nandini Reddy, Tharun Bhascker, Sankalp Reddy and Nag Ashwin respectively. The film stars Jagapathi Babu, Shruti Haasan, Amala Paul, Saanve Megghana, Lakshmi Manchu, Eesha Rebba and Sathyadev in key roles.

Pitta Kathalu is being proclaimed as the regional version of Netflix’s Lust Stories – the only similarity in the two being the focus on relationships and love through the eyes of a woman. Here too, the trailer shows the conflicts surrounding love, trust and commitment in the lives of women from various age groups and walks of life. There’s sufficient drama and intensity in the trailer to win your attention and filmmakers have succeeded in eliciting raw emotions out of their cast. Lakshmi Manchu, Shruti and Amala Paul instantly make an impression.

Very rarely have Telugu films or digital content looked at relationships from the perspective of women. Especially with Pitta Kathalu touching upon a theme like desire, it should hopefully prompt more filmmakers to come up with unique stories women surrounding. The likes of ZEE5, Aha have gone a long way forward in coming up with many Telugu shows in the last two years and Netflix needs to be strikingly good with Pitta Kathalu to change the tide.
