Most mainstream actresses are gradually stepping into the digital space finally realising there’s nothing to lose by doing so. After all, how long will they only play second fiddle to mainstream heroes film after film? Raashi Khanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Tamannaah, Samantha have shown the way forward and proved that careers in the digital space and film industry can mutually co-exist. While Kajal has just signed her second web series for Aha recently, her first web show, Live Telecast, that released on February 12 has met with an insipid response from crowds.

Also marking director Venkat Prabhu’s debut in the digital space, Live Telecast was released in multiple languages and was marketed as a horror-comedy. The story was one of the first-ever scripts that Venkat Prabhu had written for a feature film that never got made. In most South Indian industries, the horror-comedy trend has almost been done to death and there’s hardly been dimension in the genre that has been left untouched. The buzz for the show, as a result, has been extremely low and its filmmaking and acting standards have been extremely poor.

The premise about a live reality show with ghosts in a haunted house is quirky on paper, but the execution is so illogical. Live Telecast feels like a never-ending feature film made with disappointing production values. Vaibhav is only the saving grace in this show, while Anandhi is just okay. Surprisingly, Kajal has chosen such a flimsy script for a web debut. Kajal has four feature films releasing this year – Mosagallu, Acharya, Mumbai Saga and Hey Sinamika.
