Book cases against bogus colleges: CM

The state government has decided to Book Criminal cases against managements of bogus colleges, which had collected heavy amounts from the government towards reimbursement tuition fee.

Briefing media persons at the Secretariat on Saturday, Social Welfare Minister Mukesh Goud stated that Chief Minister K Rosaiah has ordered the booking of cases against those managements which were not registered and yet collected money for fee reimbursement of tuition fee.

Mr Mukesh Goud informed that 12,000 colleges had applied for registration earlier, and later a list of only 9,000 colleges had come for registration. This means that around 3,000 colleges are apparently bogus, he said. 

The Minister made it clear that the government would identify these bogus colleges and recover the money released to them. Asked to spell out the extent of amount given to these bogus colleges, Mr Mukesh Goud replied that the government was yet to arrive at a figure.

Replying to another question on bogus colleges, the Minister stated, "when there were no colleges (existing), how do the students exist."

The Minister’s rejoinder means that the state government had sanctioned huge amounts to these bogus colleges for reimbursements of tuition fee without checking the genuine nature of the colleges and whether there were students on their rolls. 

For 2010, Rs 1,353 crore was disbursed to all the colleges and for 2011, an estimated budget of Rs 2,012 crore towards reimbursement of tuition fee has been arrived at. Mr Mukesh Goud said that the Chief Minister has agreed to the release of this amount.

Stating that there were no arrears to be paid to the BC Welfare hostels, the Minister said that Rs 20 crore has already been released to women's welfare hostels.
