Navneet's record breaking marriage

For popular film actress Navneet Kaur and her husband Ravi Rana, who were among the 2,834 couples who got married at a mass marriage ceremony at the Science Core grounds on Wednesday, the event would be probably etched in their memories throughout their lifetimes.

Memorable considering the fact that their marriage ceremony is destined to make it to the Guinness Book of World Records and the Limca Book of Records as the biggest ever mass marriage ceremony performed in recorded history.

Also memorable since the wedding ceremony was attended by an estimated five lakh guests, among them the who is who of the film industry.

The wedding ceremony was solemnized by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev. Along with Navneet and Ravi Rana, about 900 Buddhist, 600 tribal, 350 Muslim, 150 physically challenged and couples from other communities entered into wedlock on Wednesday.

Many noted personalities from the political arena and many film personalities like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt and other noted actors also blessed the couples.

The cost of the mass marriage ceremony, about Rs five crore, did dig a deep hole in Ravi Rana’s pocket, leaving him to seek assistance from the Maharashtra government. Ravi Rana, the independent MLA from Badnera constituency, Amravati district and his bride are both staunch followers of Baba Ramdev.

Twentynine-year-old Rana was elected to the Maharashtra Assembly in 2009, when he trounced his NCP rival Sulbha Khodke. Punjabi Kudi Navneet Kaur is a popular face among the Telugu speaking world, having made her debut in films as the lead actress in ‘Seenu Vasanthi  Lakshmi’.

Apart from Telugu, Navneet Kaur also featured in several Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam films. Navneet is expected to quit her acting career and settled down to domestic bliss with her husband. Ravi Rana has already announced that he expect her to be an active participant in his social service activities post-marriage.
