Gadwal, Oct 8 :
The state government has totally failed in dealing with rescue and relief operations in flood affected areas of the state, alleged Opposition leader and Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu.
Expressing unhappiness over the ongoing relief operations taken up by the district administration in Gadwal in Mahabubnagar district on Thursday, the TDP supremo stated that the government has totally failed in all aspects in helping the needy during a natural calamity of this magnitude.
Talking to media, he said that the district administration has failed to respond properly to the people’s woes and expressed his anguish on the slow pace of releasing funds to the flood affected areas. He criticized the district administration for their failure in removing carcasses and silt on roads.
The irrigation officials have no knowledge on discharging of water from dams. If the officials have sound knowledge on inflow and outflow of water, the disaster could have been averted in Krishna basin, he said.
He said the TDP during its regime has strengthened the river embankments and bunds so as to keep off the surging flood waters flow upto 12,000 cusecs. But the Congress government has failed to consolidate the work in fortifying the bunds, so breaches occurred even when there was a flow of 10,000 cusecs of water, he explained.
He said that the callous attitude of officials towards quality of work in constructing new bunds and inability to stop illegal digging of holes on the bund for pipelines led to the three consecutive breaches on the right flood bank, Olteru branch canal and Penumudi-Lankavani Dibba road in Repalle. Had the bunds and embankments been strengthened, the inundation of Repalle town could have been avoided, he said.
