Khammam agency in for a Naxal-police battle soon ?

Khammam,Oct 28: The silent hills in Khammam agency may soon rumble with the thundering guns as the outlawed Maoists and the forces, specially trained in anti-Naxalite operations, are getting ready for an impending battle of sorts.Indications are that the fully-armed CoBRA (Combat Battalion for Resolute Action), an anti-Naxalite police force, drafted by the Union Government, are sieving the entire hilly terrain in a bid to track down the extremist hideouts in the thick jungles of Dandakaranya. The Maoists, on the other hand, are also training their guns at the police troops that are advancing stealthily into their strongholds. As recently reported in a section of the media, the Maoists have undergone thorough training in the use of sophisticated arms from the dreaded Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The Union Government, which of late has embarked upon taking on the banned extremists, has constituted the CoBRA to effectively tackle the insurgents. The CoBRA personnel are, thus, camping on the hillocks with all their might and bent upon eliminating the extremists, even by using aerial strikes. It is understood that the forces are being supplied food and other essentials from the plains in order to continue the ongoing tirade from strategic locations until tangible results are achieved. In addition to their strength, the Greyhound police of Andhra Pradesh, their counterparts in Chhatisgarh and the activists of Salwa Judum are scanning every inch of the forests abutting the borders to strike at the militants through land and aerial attacks from across the borders between Andhra Pradesh and Chattisgarh.

Police sources here are confident of a positive outcome soon as the forces have fanned out into the whole of Dandakaranya area. However, the Naxalites too are understood to be formulating their own plans not to be cowed down by such strategies. The latest training they received from the LTTE in the handling of sophisticated weaponry is certainly a morale booster to take on their enemy posts, some experts here feel. The extremists are understood to have acquired the latest rocket launchers and advanced arms as part of their arsenal to strike at the police troops.

Top extremist leaders during a conclave in the Dandakaranya forests are reported to have formulated a multi-pronged strategy against the troops and are planning to implement the resolutions in letter and spirit. The plan included attack on the police stations located in the interior areas. In view of the threat perception to all the police stations, a red alert has been sounded in the Dandakaranya forests.
