Hyderabad, Jan 8: Chief Minister K Rosaiah will administer polio drops to a child at his residence to formally launch the Pulse Polio Immunization in Hyderabad on Jan 10 in connection with the World Pulse Polio Day.This was revealed to media persons by Minister for Health and Family Welfare Danam Nagender who said the Pulse Polio programme launched in 1995 by the Family Welfare Department is aimed at eradicating the dreaded disease from the state. He said there has been a remarkable decline in cases of polio-affliction in the state since the launch of the programme.Giving figures, the Health Minister said the number of polio cases in the state come down to one in 2008 from 96 in 1998.
In 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006, no polio cases were registered. He added that the state government has been consistently conducting Pulse Polio rounds successfully from 1995.Children in the age group of 0-5 years were proposed to be covered under the campaign to be taken up from January 10 as ‘Polio Sunday’. In all, 63,766 polio booths would function during the round in all the cities, towns, villages and habitations and at transit point booths being operated at all railway stations, bus stands, ferry points and tourist spots.
