Time for Sania to put an end to controversies

Hyderabad, Jan 28: A professional should make news either on the field or off the field.  However, it would be more creditable if he or she hits headlines on the field rather than off the field. India’s biggest female tennis star Sania Mirza is more than a mere tennis star in the country.The news of her cancelled engagement with Sohrab Mirza has been met with a tinge of pity. At a time when her career graph was plummeting, this development is not an encouraging one.

The 23-year-old Arjuna awardee has, of late, sparked off more controversies than wins in the profession. Religious groups criticized her dress sense, her views on pre-marital sex which also alienated her from a few other groups. The way she trampled over the national Tricolour while being seated at an event brought her to the brink of prosecution under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act.So, it’s time for her to put a full stop to her controversies and concentrate on her game so that she can win more laurels for the country.
