The display of colourfully-decorated Bathukamma has become a prominent feature in the ongoing Telangana agitations be it a dharna, relay hunger strike or a public meeting.
Although the nine-day annual festival was celebrated in September last year, its spirit is still pervading, as the Telangana women activists have been taking part in agitations, demanding statehood for Telangana with Bathukamma.
An impressive demonstration of Bathukamma by artistes hogged the limelight during the Telangana Vidyarthi Polikeka at the Kakatiya University grounds here recently.
“We have included Bathukamma in the agitation for separate Telangana to showcase the unique cultural heritage of the region,” said Prasanna, a member of the Telangana JAC Women’s Wing.
The presence of Bathukamma in the various agitations has inspired women to actively participate in the movement for achieving Telangana and safeguarding the glorious cultural heritage of the region, she remarked.
