Continuing its drive against tax defaulters, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (Ghmc) on Monday sealed Hotel Katriya de Royal located at Begumpet in the heart of the city.
According to Ghmc sources, several notices were served on the Hotel Katriya since 2009 for payment of tax arrears.
However, the hotel management did not respond favourably to the notices. Acting tough against defaulters, the officials on Monday seized the hotel.
Earlier, the Ghmc authorities sealed a leading shopping mall `Hyderabad Central' for failing to clear the Rs 2.8 crore property tax.
The civic body also issued notices to other malls, shopping complexes, shops and hotels as part of its drive to collect Rs 180 crore arrears towards property tax.
Ghmc Central Zone Commissioner K Bhaskar told reporters that warrants and notices were served to defaulters. There are at least 10 property owners who have not clearred their dues of over Rs 1 crore each.
He said the Transco is making up the loss of generation at the hydel stations by enhancing output at thermal plants and by purchasing 10 mu by paying a price of Rs 2.75 per unit.
