Illicit liquor death toll rises to 7 in city

Hyderabad, Aug 19 :

The number of those who have died after consuming illicit liquor in Rajendranagar and other parts of city has risen to 7. The toll could be higher, according to unofficial sources. The deaths were first reported on Wednesday. Several people who had fallen ill were admitted to various hospitals, including a few in Osmania General Hospital. “So far, 6 deaths have been reported from hospitals and another three persons condition is stated to be critical,” according to the hospital sources. Jangaiah, who consumed illicit liquor and undergoing treatment in Osmania Hospital, died on Wednesday.

Raids were being conducted and illicit liquor dens were being demolished in the Vambay Colony in Mehdipatnam and Rajendranagar from where the deaths were reported, according to Excise officials.

The officials said only investigations would ascertain any place from where the illicit liquor was being sold. The critically ill have been admitted to various private and municipal hospitals in the city.
