The Nampalli Court pronounced judgement on the self-styled Hizbul Mujahideen commander Mujeeb Ahmed and six of his aides in the illegal arms procurement case here on Friday.
Mujeeb Ahmed was sentenced for life while six of his aides were sentenced to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment. Besides Mujeeb had to pay a sum of Rs 5,000/ as fine while the other six were ordered to pay Rs 2,000/.
In view of the pronouncement of the judgement passed by additional metropolitan sessions Judge, Nampally, there is a heavy police picketing at the precincts of the court.
Mujeeb, a resident of Tolichowki, was arrested in December 2005 following a tip-off given by the Rajasthan police in Ajmer after seizing an arms cache. The smuggled weapons were hidden in a truck carrying marble slabs and were being brought to Hyderabad from Kashmir via Ajmer.
When he was nabbed by the police in Hyderabad, a satellite phone, two mobile phones, Rs.1.15 lakh in cash, photo copies of Urdu literature and other documents were seized from him. The arms supplied by the terrorist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen were meant to carry out subversive activities in Hyderabad.
Johra Nishat, Mujeeb’s female accomplice, brother-in-law Jahangir Khan, truck driver Shabbir Ahmed the truck driver, Ravindra Kumar the cleaner, Mohammed Yasin and Awad were held guilty under provisions of Section 122, 124 (A) of the IPC and other charges.
Earlier Mujeeb was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Additional SP Krishna Prasad in 1992. On the eve of Independence Day in August 2004, the Government granted him remission along with 1050 prisoners. Once released, he soon got into terrorist activities.
