2018 Every One is A Hero: Story Review

2018 story is about the devastating floods in Kerala and how the lives of innocent people changed drastically in difficult and unexpected situations. 2018 has multiple stories involving multiple personalities and how Ex Army Officer Anoop (Tovino Thomas), his love interest Manju (Tanvi Ram), TRP savvy reporter Noora (Aparna Balamurali), Nixon (Asif Ali), and Home Secretary Shaji Punnoose (Kunchak Bobban) reacted to the flash floods that had a devastating effect from the crux.

2018 (2023) Movie: Artists Review

Tovino Thomas played the role and in fact, lived in his character. He not only took center stage when required but also played the second fiddle letting others take the narration forward. He showed good expressions and emotions and showed how a person changes accordingly.

Asif Ali made his presence felt with his experience. Tanvi Ram and Aparna Balamurali got important roles but one gets a feeling that they are underused by the director after introducing them in a strong manner. Others came up with spirited performances to power the film to another level.

2018 Malayalam Movie: Technicians Review

The story penned by Jude Anthany Joseph and Akhil P. Dharmajan sought to highlight the emotions of the people while entangled in natural calamities. He showed how people from different walks of life and professions get affected by natural calamities like floods and how they react in those situations.

The story selected by Jude Anthany Joesph is simple but he elevated the scenes showing the emotions of various people with a good screenplay and direction. He started the narration by talking about the history of Kerala floods starting from the 1970s and the way Keralites thought that with the steps taken during the 1990s, there wouldn't be any floods with the construction of Mullaperiyar dam in the 1980s, and people are self-reliant. However, things take a drastic turn and he showed them in a natural manner.  The entire first half is spent mostly showing the backdrop of each and every character and it looks simple but once into the second half after the interesting interval bang, the story takes off to another level. But at times, he turned over dramatic, and at times he narrated it in a natural manner. Apart from it, the narration assumed the form of a docu-drama.

The cinematography of Akhil Geoge showed the floods, devastation, and catastrophe in an effective and impactful manner highlighting the emotions associated with it. He used the top-angle shots quite well to connect chords with movie lovers. The way he showed the fishermen rescuing each other at the start during the incessant rains, the rescue of a pregnant woman, and the way the church was shown during the floods talks of technical brilliance.  Nobin Paul's music is situational and the background score is good. He showed variations while showing the intensity of the rain and the floods. Chaman Chako's editing is quite fine. Dialogues are good it highlighted the failure of the Government as the administration left the people in a lurch without acting promptly. The production values of Kavya Film Company and P.K. Prime Productions are fine.

2018 (2023) Malayalam Movie: Rating Analysis

Altogether, 2018 is a story of emotions involving various human beings. Jude Anthany Joseph came up with a simple story of floods in Kerala but with his screenplay and direction wove a flood of emotions around it to capture the imagination of all. He connected chords with the movie lovers and emotions shown on the screen will move them to the core. However, considering a few loopholes like a simple story, and slow pace, Cinejosh goes with a 3 Rating for 2018 Movie.
