Behind the Movie Avunu: Director Ravi Babu has a set of target audience who always wait for a movie from him. Like wise this film is made with very low budget and released with low hype. Let us see how far Ravi Babu succeeded in scaring you?

In the Movie Avunu: As per the story, newly wed couple of Harsha (Harshavardhan Rane) and Mohini (Poorna) settle down in a gated community of Classic Homes in Hyderabad outskirts. In their apartment, an invisible spirit starts chasing Mohini day and night. Though initially reluctant, Mohini finally believes that something is happening wrong in the home when sadistic acts of ghost exceed certain limits. A super brilliant neighborhood kid Vicky who has the ability to chitchat with ghosts offer enough hints to Mohini and Harsha who finally has no way rather than leaving the place for a while.

But, the spirit is in infatuation with Mohini and story takes next aggressive step when real identity of this spirit is found as Captain Rao. Who is this Captain Rao? What is his link with Classic Homes? How did Police Officer (Ravi Babu) unravel the mystery behind Captain Rao and his psycho acts form the rest of regular climax!

Values of the Movie Avunu: Basic strength of the movie is director Ravi Babu’s tight hold on this kind of subjects. Although he looses the grip now and then but finally delivered a satisfactory product which can easily pull the horror and thriller movie lovers. Screenplay is although old styled yet narration wise, he maintained the pace making sure that viewers doesn’t get relaxed. Sudhakar Reddy’s cinematography is quite different from regular horror flicks and he is a winner. Sekhar Chandra never disappoints Ravi Babu and his exhilarating background is a big advantage which enhanced the output. Ever reliable Marthand K Venkatesh’s editing has also come in handy to generate the thrill and maintain the suspense factor. Dialogues are pretty cool. Production values of Suresh productions and PVP are appreciative.

Performance wise Poorna is the real find out. She has expressive eyes and wonderful facial features to elevate the emotion of fear. In fact, Poorna is the very life line of movie and she has given a well balanced show. Definitely many directors will point a finger at this girl by booking her for future projects. Before Poorna’s excellence, everybody inclusive of Harshavardhan Rane, Ravi Babu’s cameo, Bhargavi, Sudha, Chalapathi Rao and others are made to look inferior in quality. However, each of them has done the justice.

Out of the Movie Avunu: If you have to pick up the best for this weekend among all the Telugu releases and if you are brave enough to watch horror mixed thriller flicks, Avunu is the best choice. Particularly those who admire Ravi Babu’s odd concepts and taking style can easily go for a watch. The way he has concealed the suspense factor till climax has made Avunu little more exciting. For general audience who love entertainment, there is nothing for you here.

It is common for this genre of films to have some sort of influence from Hollywood and Ravi Babu is no different because patrons are found comparing Avunu with few episodes of Hollow Man. Yet keeping you engaged using an invisible spirit is an achievement and director should be praised for it. Avunu is a film which will cater to a particular set of public and family audience can stay away easily. Commercially, a safe venture for sure.

Cinejosh Verdict of the Movie Avunu: Yes, this is Ravi Babu’s Trade Mark Horror Thriller.
