Golkonda High School Movie Review

Behind the Movie GHS: Two years that hero Sumanth is away from facing the camera. This time he joins talented Indraganti Mohana Krishna for a sensible story based on the novel ‘Men with In.’ With Colors Swathi to add the color of glamour and Kalyani Malik with Music Direction, let us see how far did this GHS team succeed in winning the Sankranthi match?

In the Movie GHS: Golkonda High School in Hyderabad is an age old school with best history and worst present. Students in the school are poor in Academics and Sports due to lack of efficient faculty. School is managed by a Trust which has already gone bankrupt. One of the key Trust members Kiriti Babu (Subba Raju) along with Vice Principal Madhu Babu (Shafi) make out a plan to build coaching centre (IIT & EAMCET) demolishing the school play ground. The proposal is tabled before Principal Vishwanath (Tanikella Bharani) who dislikes it. As GHS from last 15 years is unable to register a single win in any Sports events, necessity of a play ground is sidelined and Trust decides to give Principal the last chance to win the Inter State School Cricket Championship in order to save their play ground.

Here comes the old student of the same School, Sampath (Sumanth) as a Cricket Coach on the request of Vishwanath. Very soon, Sampath sticks on to the task of reshaping GHS Cricket Team which has enough talent but lacking the direction taking it as a direct challenge with Kiriti Babu and Madhu Babu. How did Sampath train the GHS team with support from English Teacher Anjali (Colors Swathi) and Peon Jaane Miyan? How did students and parents understand the importance of Sports in overall growth of children? What kind of cheap tricks did Kiriti play in the course? Did GHS win the Tournament? form the rest of movie.

Values of the Movie GHS: This is a clichéd story line which is a mix masala of ‘Sye’ and ‘Chak De.’ What matters the most here is the way Indraganti tried to project the old story in new way. Dialogues were many times philosophical, message oriented and of course entertaining. Indraganti dealt the narration very casual mixing the natural acting from the young bunch of school cricket team players. Screenplay wise, we find nothing interesting as almost all the episodes are experienced in past. Indraganti has done good job in Direction department without missing the entertainment and excitement along with momentum of story. Cinematography by Senthil was once again brilliant which is better accompanied by Art Work of Ravinder. Editing by Shravan Katikaneni was also good and more than all the background score of Kalyani Malik lifted the commotion although we know that GHS is finally going to win the Tournament. Production values of Art Beat were also fine much to the demand of story line.

Performance by Sumanth seems to have drawn too much of inspiration from Shahrukh Khan and Rajeev Kanakala or call it dialogues sounding the same. Despite a Cricket Coach, Sumanth never looked like a Sports personality most of the times getting stiff in body language. Overall, he was just okay. Swathi is at her routine trying to rotate her eye balls and few chirpy dialogues encouraging Sumanth. In villainy Subba Raju was brilliant and he was at tremendous ease in displaying the emotions and I wish to see him in many more of these kinds of characters. Shafi was also fine while Tanikella Bharani, Hema and others were just okay. The discussion would be incomplete, if I fail to mention about the fourteen school kids who engaged the entire movie with their innocent faces but delivering the needful when story demanded taking the flick to next level, especially in climax episodes.

Out of the Movie GHS: In simple, this is a Telugu version of ‘Chak De’ and a low magnitude version of ‘Sye.’ The only new and genuine point in story is enlightening the parents about importance of Sports and Extra Curricular activities in lives of their Children. Instead of grinding them round the clock with Text Books and Exams; Sports are a better way to strengthen them physically and mentally, reinforcing confidence in every move of their life. The message was flowing under current and no where Indraganti dared to take up lengthy boring speeches. 

Movie could have been further better, if Indraganti tried something new in episodes like misunderstanding the coach, uniting the players as a tem, flashback of Sumanth, fighting for play ground…the formulae logics which were already seen in the above two movies mentioned. Romance between lead pair was also not that engrossing because Swathi looked like a complete mismatch besides Sumanth.

In first half, we have entertainment with school children, Sumanth and Swathi trying some love story and by interval the match schedules of tournament are out. Second half deals with few gripping episodes as how students fought united for their GHS. Overall, this is just an average cocktail of two successful Sports based movies.
