Unni Mukundan's Marco turned out to be a stupendous hit in Malayalam. The film is now releasing in Telugu on 1 Jan 2025. Let us see what impact the film created on movie lovers.

Unni Mukundan's Marco Movie: Story Review

Marco's story revolves around the influential gold trading family and the brutal murder in their family and the subsequent happenings.

The brutal murder of Victor D Peter (Ishaan Shoukath)  brings Marco ( Unni Mukundan) who was sent to Italy land in Kerala who vows to seek revenge on the enemies.

Where this leads to and what are the secrets of Adattu family, which is renowned for gold trading and how it is connected to Maria (Yukthi Thareja), Cyrus Isaac ( Kabir Duhan Singh), George D Peter( Siddique), Tony Issac( Jagadish), Russell Isaac (Abhimanyu Thilakan) and others form the interesting part.

Unni Mukundan's Marco: Artists Review

Unni Mukundan comes up with a stunning performance as Marco. He transformed himself for his look and looked stylish and rugged. He performed intense action sequences with ease and delivered dialogues making a powerful impact. He portrayed serious expression as required for his role.

Others like Yukti Thareja, Kabir Duhan Singh,  Dinesh Prabhakar, Arjun Nandakumar, Ajith Koshy, Riyaz Khan, Anson Paul, Jagadeesh, Siddique, Abhimanyu Thilakan, Anson Paul, Durva Thacker, Mathew Varghese performed according to their roles.

Marco (2025) Movie: Technical Review

The Marco story penned by Haneef Adeni is a simple revenge story but he turned it into a stylish thriller by including twists and turns. Right from the start till the finish, he depended on intense action sequences with brutal violence to elevate the heroism of Unni Mukundan.

It seems he has taken inspiration from films KGF, Salaar, Animal and others. For a routine, predictable action drama, he included few twists to take the narration forward. However, while KGF, Salaar, Animal,Kill, and others had powerful and relatable emotions, Marco missed everything.

Director Haneef Adeni concentrated only on glorifying violence rather than connect chords with movie lovers with emotions.  Kill had many violent scenes but they are realistic but action sequences defied logic and looked unrealistic. The way Haneef Adeni showed violence it seems he is giving new ideas to criminals in real life as to how to kill people more brutally and in a more inhumane manner.

There are many scenes like the protagonist biting and pulling the ears and skin out of the antagonists aka Allu Arjun in Pushpa The Rule when both his hands were tied and then taking an electric saw and chopping off hands, legs and whatnot. The antagonist takes the violence to the extremities by killing women which puts even a butcher to shame.

The antagonist kills many by drawing knives from one end to the other end of their faces, bodies and then leaves everyone puking in the theatres by cutting the womb of a pregnant woman and removing the unborn baby from the fetus, and killing him. For all the brute force, while the antagonist kills the family members of the protagonist in a more inhumane manner, the protagonist kills the antagonist in a simple manner disappointing all.

After showing the protagonist's hunt for his brother's murders, the first half ends with a decent interval bang. The second half follows the same pattern and continues in the same manner before the film ends with the action-packed pre-climax and climax scenes.

The story as revealed is predictable, but the screenplay is racy and the direction is good. The script turned out to be weak and the makers should have worked on it. The makers ended openly with the lead to the sequel. The music and songs though situational acted as speedbrakers. The background music elevated the scenes to the next level.

The cinematography of Chandru Selvaraj is good. He with his camera angles showed the scenes in the natural and realistic manner. The action choreography is stylish and gave a rich look. The editing of Shameer Muhammed is okay but could have been better. Production values are good.

Marco Movie: Rating Analysis

Altogether, Marco turns out to be a high-octane mass mass-action violent entertainer. Director Haneef Adeni emerged successful in showing Unni Mukundan in a completely different and shocking avatar and stunningly elevated his heroism.

The story is extremely violent and it was shown brutally on screen. The screenplay is fast-paced and the narration is predictable. One gets a feeling how the members of the Censor Board cleared the decks for the film release even with an A certificate. People across the country ask filmmakers to draw inspiration from Malayalam filmmakers.

It is shocking that such a film glorifying extreme violence came from the Malayalam industry. The makers may justify that the film got an A certificate and it is up to the viewers to use their intelligence and discretion whether to watch the film or not. But the question is what message the makers are sending with a stylish entertainer Marco, with extreme, mindless, senseless and emotionless brutal violence in the film. The way they are giving ideas to the criminals on how to kill people is the most bizarre and insensitive act from the makers.  Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.25 rating for Marco.
