Behind the Movie Maryada Ramanna: Bundles of expectation, the stamp value of SS Rajamouli, the turn of comedian turned hero Sunil, Keeravani’s successful music, the proved banner ARKA Media…with a cumulative burden of all these brand names, ‘Maryada Ramanna’ has stepped into theatres today. Let us see, how far it succeeded in providing hospitality to the guests who entered theatres by buying tickets?

In the Movie Maryada Ramanna: Story starts up in 1982 in the village of Gandipeta near Tadipatri of Rayalaseema. Factionism between rival families of Ramineedu (Nagineedu) and Kovelamudi Raghava Rao results in the killing of Ankineedu (brother of Ramineedu) and Raghava Rao himself. To lead a peaceful life, Raghava Rao’s wife escapes from the village to Hyderabad along with his only son, who grows up to become Ramu (Sunil). Ramu looses his mother with time and on the other side, Ramineedu’s sons Malla Suri and Byri Reddy grow with  revenge to kill the entire family of Raghava Rao including Ramu.

Ramu is innocent and a good human being who is in need of Rs.2 Lakhs to buy a trolley auto to make his life set. Being away from faction, Ramu is unaware of his family background. At this point of time, Ramu receives a telegram from Tadipatri Mandal Office to collect the (land) property papers of his ancestors. To dispose the land and get the needful money, Ramu moves to Rayalaseema. Enroute to Gandipeta, Ramu meets Aparna (Saloni) in the train and she is impressed by the innocence of Ramu.

Situations turn up in such a way that Ramu enters the house of Ramineedu as a guest to sell the ancestral land and luckily Aparna is the only daughter of Ramineedu. When Ramineedu comes to know that Ramu is the son of their rival, he is struck up in a critical situation. As Ramineedu is known for ‘Athidhi Maryada’ (Hospitality to Guests), following his family tradition he can’t kill Ramu as long as he is inside the house. Once Ramu steps out of his house, he is going to be killed.

Very soon, even Ramu also knows about the fact and he is determined not to step out of the house at any cost. From here on Ramu makes different plans not to leave the house while Ramineedu & Co. wait for an opportunity. During this brief period when Ramu is trying to save his life, Aparana develops interest on Ramu and she is in love. With the help of brother-in-law Srikanth (Brahmaji), how did Aparna convey her love to family members? How did Ramu react to Aparna’s love? Did Ramineedu’s family succeed in taking revenge? form the climax.

Values of the Movie Maryada Ramanna: First thing that impresses audience during their entire stay with ‘Maryada Ramanna’ is the way of Rajamouli’s narration. Wow, what a master story teller he is! He is a doctor who caught it right the pulse of Telugu audience. Story by SS Kanchi is simple but the way Rajamouli carved it into a potential block buster speaks his boundless talent. To join him in giving the best ever output is Music Director Keeravani. If songs gelled well in audience with their best timing in the movie, Keeravani’s background score has elevated the movie to new heights. This is one of the best background in recent times. Cinematographer Ramprasad has shown the new skill in the company of Rajamouli. Styling by Rama Rajamouli was timely as demanded by the characters. While Editing by Kotagiri was sharp, ARKA’s production values are good with excellent artistic work (especially the house setting) from Ravinder and neatly done Comupter Graphics

Performance wise Sunil has easily shouldered the role of Ramu. Sunil has cut down lot of his regular diction, concentrated more on emotion and timing. Rajamouli better utilised the dancing abilities of Sunil. Saloni is the surprise package. In first few minutes (including the train scene), she looked with light wrinkles on face but later as the movie progresses, she looked gorgeous. We surely missed this beauty until Rajamouli found it inside her. Nagineedu, being a debutant  excelled with settled emotions. Being a new face, he easily attracted the audience. Brahmaji has got a lenghty and purposeful role, considered best in recent times. His timing was superb. Remaining others like Anuj Gurwara, Rao Ramesh, Supreet, Kanchi, Kishore etc served to their roles.

Out of the Movie Maryada Ramanna: Only single sentence, this movie is once again the sheer excellence from Rajamouli’s team. He is a technician who purely relies on the method of story telling. Extraction fo 100% output from his team has become an easy task for Rajamouli and result is obviously seen on the big screen. Innovative picturization of train song and the lyrics  remembers the ‘Oorura Oorura’ song from ‘Sye.’ ‘Telugu Ammayi’ song was superbly placed while ‘Raaye Raaye Saloni’ looked forcibly inserted. Easy dealing of comedy scenes gave enough relaxation. Raviteja’s Voice Over for the cyle looked to be inspired from Sekhar Kammula’s dog in ‘Godavari.’

Rajamouli knows where to start the movie, how to run the movie for 2 hours with twists, turns and entertainment; when it comes to climax, he is rated for poor closing scenes. Though he played enough tricks to cover this drawback in his earlier movies, this one has best climax which is ever provided by Rajamouli.

First half is dealt perfectly to bring out the right platform for second. Though there are very minute weak moments in second half, they are excusable. Rajamouli’s common sense, Sunil, Saloni, Nagineedu, Keeravani’s superb musical score are positives for the movie; slow pace in second half, too much usage of wire technique in dances and action sequences are only minor negatives. Overall, this is a feel good and clean family entertainer for a man riding too high on success with ‘Magadheera.’ Yet again, he delivered the goods with perfection. 'Maryada Ramanna' is surely a BO winner.
