Behind the Movie Yevade Subramanyam: Hero Nani struggling with bad phase has teamed up with debutant director Nag Ashwin on this Himalayan expedition with production responsibility of Swapna Cinema. While Radhan’s music is flowing like a slow poison, let us see how good is the film?

In the Movie Yevade Subramanyam: Story sets on introducing Subramanyam (Nani) as a growing entrepreneur to become the MD of company in which he is working. His Boss (Nasser) even offers the hand of daughter (Ritu Varma) for marriage looking at Subbu’s efficiency and engagement is done. Here comes Subbu’s childhood and best friend Rishi (Vijay), with a dream to travel Dudh Kosi, a river in Himalayas. However, Subbu does not find any time for the Himalayan adventure neglects Rishi’s idea. Meanwhile, they also befriend with Anandi (Malavika Nair), who is the only last chance for Subbu to save the company he is working for.

In an unfortunate situation, Rishi ends his life and Subbu, Anandi are set to fulfill the dream of Rishi to travel Dudh Kosi. What is this Himalayan trip all about? What kind of experiences Subbu faced? How Subbu goes through a self identification process in this journey of life?

Values of the Movie Yevade Subramanyam: Identity cannot be found or fabricated, it emerges from within when one has the courage to let go. These are the words from a famous scholar. Story selected by debutant Nag Ashwin describes the campaign of a materialistic common man from what he is to what he really is? Sounds confusing? More than me, Nag Ashwin himself was in disorientation on what his thought process is all about? As an idea, one would be highly excited on how a man explores his self through a life changing Himalayan exploration. However, screenplay was stale and direction seemed lifeless. Director had enough space to tenderly touch our hearts in this humanistic concept. However, execution missed in soul. Dialogues were also feeble easily losing the hold on plot. Rakesh and Naveen used natural lighting for most of Himalayan part in second half. Except the final Dudh Kosi scenic beauty, rest of camera work from the above two looked pretty average like a documentary. Kotagiri’s editing lost the sharpness and was a mess up. Radhaan’s music was soulful for couple of songs and BGM was moderate. Production values of Swapna Cinema are also mediocre.

On performance front, Nani has put lot of physical stress in giving life for character. He was apt as an entrepreneur with pre planned life strategy from very childhood days. His metamorphosis from a career oriented selfish guy to good human being hasn’t got any contrasting shades in body language. Even then, Nani did a fairly wonderful job. Malavika Nair is a bit hefty besides lean Nani. She is alright looks wise with an expressive face. One man who dominated Nani in the first half is Vijay. He just pumped in much needed energy with superb timing of comic punches and oozed the spirit. Vijay is just vivacious to drive the film towards a meaningful interval. Rajesh Vivek of Lagaan fame is just ok. Among the rest, Krishnam Raju, Ritu Varma, Naser, Kireeti, Parvathi Lokesh are done with their portions.

Out of the Movie Yevade Subramanyam: To keep in on front, this isn’t a regular commercial film with songs, fights and blah blah. The line picked by Nag Ashwin had lot of potential to deliver a philosophical classic. He wished to have said more and more but ended in less of what his theme has to actually concentrate on. First half speaks high on problems with in the present day people’s selfish mindset unconcerned and untouched with neighboring human lives. There is a question in first half and second half would have provided enough of answers. Unluckily, Nag Ashwin fell flat in the self realization jaunt imparting bundles of boredom into his lackadaisical screenplay.

Never to miss, more of those episodes like delivery of a Himalayan woman contributing for a visible change in Nani should have served the justification. Rather, the romantic track of Nani, Malavika also hasn’t ripened. By the time of climax, nothing great like moral philosophy or a holy sermon of humanity seeds into our brain. This is an indication of Nag Ashwin’s failed trial. All in all, Yevade hasn’t got any mammoth stuff to stir our souls. Even commercially, this could be a forgettable journey for all those associated.
